Since the announcement of Amy Winehouse’s death on Saturday morning there have been a ton of comments. One of the most commented being “it was expected” and “I’m not surprised.” I have to say, I am surprised. I read gossip bogs and celebrity news and I haven’t heard much about Winehouse recently. Or I wasn’t paying attention.
The public won’t know the exact cause of death for a few days. Most people, because of her history, assume drugs were involved. Regardless, her death does bring the topic of addiction back to the forefront.
Drugs/narcotics, alcohol, gambling, food, and even shopping are addictions. But addictions go deeper than these five. You can have addictions to ANYTHING. I’ve seen women and thought they obviously have an addiction to makeup and wearing too much of it. Some say the most recent economic downturn has to do with people’s addiction to money or living beyond their means.
There are many faces of addiction. And if we are honest we ourselves, we are probably looking at one face when we look in our mirrors. I know I have several addictions. Even though they may not be considered major, one is my addiction to sweets does exist and if I let it get the best of me, it can be harmful in the end. I’m happy I’m aware of it and working to get it under control.
Have you recognized an area of addiction in your life? How are you dealing with it?
